Meet Katherine Flynn, AMFT

Supervised by Evelina Kerimian, LMFT #51972

At A Place to Turn, we are honored to welcome Katherine Flynn, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, to our Westlake Village clinical team. Katherine brings a compassionate, collaborative, and curious approach to supporting individuals, couples, children, and adolescents as they navigate life’s challenges, strengthen relationships, and work toward meaningful personal growth.

Katherine believes therapy should be a place where clients feel safe to show up authentically and explore their thoughts, emotions, experiences, and relationships without fear of judgment. She places great value on building a strong therapeutic relationship and takes time to understand each client’s unique experiences, strengths, needs, and goals. Her warm and approachable style helps create an environment where clients can feel genuinely heard while developing greater insight into themselves and the patterns influencing their lives.

Her therapeutic approach is collaborative, individualized, and evidence-based, integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), mindfulness, and self-compassion practices. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Katherine thoughtfully adapts treatment to the developmental needs, personality, experiences, and goals of each client.

Supporting Children, Adolescents & Families

Katherine has a particular interest in working with children and adolescents, recognizing that younger clients may not always have the words to communicate what they are experiencing. She strives to create an environment where children and teens can express themselves safely, develop emotional awareness, strengthen coping skills, and build confidence as they navigate relationships, family dynamics, school, identity, and the challenges of growing up.

Katherine is also interested in incorporating creativity and art-based interventions into therapy when appropriate. She recognizes that creative expression can provide another language for emotions and experiences that may be difficult to communicate verbally, particularly for children, adolescents, and clients who naturally connect with more experiential forms of self-expression.

Katherine also welcomes LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients and is committed to providing an affirming, respectful therapeutic environment where clients can explore identity, relationships, emotional well-being, and their individual ways of experiencing and navigating the world.

In her work with couples, Katherine draws from Emotionally Focused Therapy and other relational approaches to help partners better understand the emotions and needs underlying recurring patterns. She supports couples in strengthening communication, deepening emotional connection, and developing healthier ways of responding to one another during moments of conflict or disconnection.

Katherine earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Chapman University and her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from California Lutheran University. Her clinical experience includes work in community mental health, school-based settings, and residential treatment, where she has supported clients across the lifespan with a wide range of emotional, relational, and mental health concerns.

Whether you are seeking support as an individual, couple, parent, or family, Katherine is committed to providing a warm and supportive therapeutic relationship where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to move toward greater insight, connection, and well-being.
