At A Place to Turn, we are honored to welcome Marilyn Garza, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, to our Santa Clarity clinical team. Marilyn believes that seeking therapy is one of life's most courageous decisions and that healing begins when clients feel genuinely seen, understood, and empowered. She is passionate about helping adolescents, adults, couples, and families navigate life's challenges while building resilience, strengthening relationships, and creating lasting, meaningful change.
Before becoming a therapist, Marilyn proudly served as a Combat Medic in the United States Army. This experience profoundly shaped her understanding of resilience, compassion, and whole-person healing, and continues to influence the empathy, dedication, and calm presence she brings to every therapeutic relationship. She understands that healing is not simply about overcoming hardship—it is about discovering the strengths that already exist within each person.
Marilyn works with adolescents (ages 12+), young adults, adults, couples, and families experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, family conflict, life transitions, stress, self-esteem challenges, and personal growth. She creates a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe exploring difficult emotions while developing practical skills for lasting emotional wellness.
Her therapeutic approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and integrative, recognizing that emotional well-being is deeply connected to physical health, relationships, values, and everyday life. Rather than relying on a single model, Marilyn thoughtfully blends Trauma-Informed Care, Person-Centered Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Solution-Focused Therapy, Behavioral Activation, Family Systems Therapy, and Holistic Integrative Therapy to meet the unique needs of every client.
Marilyn earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from California State University, Northridge, and her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology. She is committed to helping clients reconnect with their strengths, deepen self-understanding, and move toward lives filled with greater confidence, balance, and purpose.
