At A Place to Turn, Sara Garcia, AMFT, works with individuals, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, and major life transitions. Her work includes supporting children, adolescents, and young adults as they navigate emotional challenges, identity development, family dynamics, and relationships.
Sara integrates Attachment-Based Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, trauma-informed care, relational therapy, and strengths-based approaches to address each client's unique needs. Her work focuses on helping clients better understand their emotions, recognize patterns in their relationships, improve communication, and develop healthier ways of managing challenges. She also explores how family experiences and cultural expectations may influence self-esteem, identity, and emotional well-being.
Sara earned her Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University and her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of California, Riverside. As a first-generation daughter of immigrants with Latina and Asian heritage, she understands the importance of culture, family, and identity in shaping personal experiences. With a background in community mental health and supporting underserved populations, Sara is dedicated to helping clients feel heard, respected, and comfortable exploring their experiences while building stronger connections with themselves and others.
