At A Place to Turn, we are honored to welcome Tonya Reed, Ph.D., AMFT, to our Beverly Hills clinical team. Tonya brings a rare blend of clinical expertise, neuroscience, spirituality, and mind-body healing to her work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Her compassionate, culturally responsive approach helps clients gain clarity, reduce stress and anxiety, navigate grief and life transitions, and create greater balance and fulfillment in their personal and professional lives.
Tonya believes healing happens when clients feel genuinely seen, respected, and empowered. She creates a warm, collaborative, and client-centered environment where individuals can safely explore their experiences, reconnect with their inner strengths, and move toward meaningful, lasting change. Her work honors the whole person—mind, body, emotions, relationships, and spirit.
Her therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, integrative, and evidence-based, combining Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), grief therapy, mindfulness, and mind-body practices. As both a clinician and researcher, Tonya helps clients understand how stress, trauma, relationships, and the nervous system interact while providing practical tools that foster resilience, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships.
As a published neuroscience researcher, Tonya has explored topics including Generation X challenges, racial trauma, family systems, resilience, and meaning-making within diverse communities. Her ability to bridge cutting-edge neuroscience with compassionate psychotherapy provides clients with both scientific understanding and deeply personalized care.
Tonya also brings a unique perspective through her work as an ordained interfaith minister, grief companion, and facilitator of healing circles. Her background allows her to thoughtfully support clients navigating grief, loss, spiritual exploration, life purpose, and end-of-life concerns while honoring every individual's beliefs, values, and cultural identity.
After spending the past year immersed in the culture and healing traditions of Bali, Indonesia, Tonya intentionally returned to Southern California to expand her clinical practice and continue serving individuals seeking integrative, holistic mental health care.
